Cynthia Dearin is a linguist and businesswomen with extensive international experience, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa region.
She has worked in the private and public sectors, most recently as the CEO of the Australia Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry and before that as a management consultant in the US, UK and Iraq.
From February 2001 to June 2005 Cynthia was a political officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade. During this time, she held diplomatic posts in Egypt, the UAE and Qatar (2003 – 2004), where trade and investment promotion was an important part of her role.
Cynthia is an Australian-qualified legal practitioner. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours)/International Studies and a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice from the University of Technology, Sydney and a Master of Science (Middle East Politics)(First Class Honours) from the School of Oriental & African Studies, London. She is proficient in written and spoken Arabic and French, and uses her language skills in a professional capacity.
