Liz Behjat was a Member of the State Parliament of Western Australia for 8 years from 2009 through to 2017. During her parliamentary career she took on a number of leadership roles within the Parliament most notably as Deputy Chair of Committee and Acting President and Chair of the Legislative Council Standing Committee on Public Administration.
As an MP Liz was a great advocate for multiculturalism and advancement of women and ran successful workshops with Ministers of the Crown to give direct access to government to many members of the CaLD communities.
Liz’s other interests are in health and medical research and she currently sits on the Management Committee of the Ralph & Patricia Sarich Neuroscience Foundation Building and the executive committee of the Neurotrauma Research Program. She also sits on other Boards in a both a paid and pro bono capacity.
Since retiring from Parliament last year Liz has taken on a private consultancy role and still enjoys working with multicultural groups and giving advice to others seeking to enter political life.
Liz plays an active role for the Crescent Institute in Perth.
